Hi, I'm Dr. Emma Nakamura
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, EMDR Certified
I became a therapist because I understand what it's like to carry trauma that no one else can see. To look fine on the outside while feeling completely dysregulated on the inside.
My own healing journey led me to somatic therapy, EMDR, and nervous system work—modalities that finally helped me feel safe in my body after years of talk therapy that only went so far.
I specialize in working with adults who've tried therapy before but didn't get the depth they needed. Clients who are tired of surface-level coping strategies and ready to heal at the root level.
I trained in EMDR at the Trauma Recovery Institute, completed advanced training in somatic experiencing and polyvagal theory, and have spent 12 years in private practice helping clients move from survival to thriving.
Outside the therapy room, I'm probably hiking with my dog Miso, reading the latest trauma research, or attempting to keep my houseplants alive.

How I Work
Trauma-Informed, Always
Your nervous system's responses make complete sense. We work with your body's wisdom, not against it.
Depth Over Surface
We don't just manage symptoms—we heal the root wounds. This is deep work, and it takes time, but it's worth it.
Your Pace, Your Process
Healing isn't linear. Some sessions we go deep, some sessions we stabilize. I follow your nervous system's lead.
My Clients
I work primarily with adults (25-55) who are high-functioning on the outside but struggling internally. Many of my clients are therapists themselves, healers, or helping professionals who need a space to finally receive care.
You might be dealing with:
- Complex trauma or developmental trauma
- Anxious or disorganized attachment patterns
- High-functioning anxiety or perfectionism
- Burnout or compassion fatigue
- Life transitions or identity shifts
- Relationship patterns you want to heal
You're ready for therapy if you want more than coping strategies—you want actual healing.
